Psychology

Dr. Stefanie D. Peters, Licensed Clinical Psychologist, has over 25 years experience serving as an expert for both plaintiffs and defendants in a wide range of civil cases and has provided expert testimony in Federal and Superior courts. Her testimony has been highly regarded for its fairness and objectivity and for her ability to speak to jurors in an understandable and concise manner. Areas of specialization include all types of employment litigation (race/national origin, gender, age, sexual orientation and disability discrimination, wrongful termination), sexual harassment and assault, impact of physical injury, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and long-term effects of childhood sexual abuse. Dr. Peters also serves as an Agreed Medical Examiner and Qualified Medical Evaluator for California Workers’ Compensation cases.

In addition to her forensic work, Dr. Peters has maintained a private practice since 1990, providing individual and conjoint psychotherapy with adults and adolescents. For over 30 years, she has worked with the Barrington Psychiatric Center, during which time she has served as Director of Training, Director of Quality Assurance and Senior Clinical Consultant.

Her research involvement has included serving as Project Director of a six-year NIMH-funded study of the sexual experiences of African-American and Caucasian women in Los Angeles County. She also worked with the Rape Treatment Center of Santa Monica in developing research protocols and instruments to accompany a citywide educational program for high school students. Her publications have focused on the areas of employment litigation, childhood sexual abuse and depression.
